Anatomy services manager shortlisted in “Oscars of Higher Education”
A technician from Keele’s School of Medicine has been shortlisted for a prestigious Times Higher Education award.
Paul Clews, Anatomy and Technical Services Manager in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, has been shortlisted for the Technician of the Year award in the Times Higher Education Awards 2023, for his work over two decades to deliver specialised, hands-on practical anatomy and surgical training courses.
Having first joined Keele 20 years ago as a Senior Anatomy Technician, Paul now leads a team of 18 technicians and support staff, working with the academic lead for the Keele Anatomy department to provide first class support to academics and students from across the Faculties of Medicine and Health, and Natural Sciences.
He also leads Keele’s Anatomy and Surgical Training Centre team, providing specialist training to Surgical Consultants and trainees from around the world, and manages technical teams across different schools within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
As a founding member of the Keele Technician Commitment Steering Group, he helped to create and implement two action plans and subsequent development and networking activities, all in line with the pillars of the Technician Commitment.
Paul said: “It is a great honour to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. I feel very proud and privileged to lead such a fantastic team.”
The Times Higher Education Awards, referred to as the “Oscars” of higher education, recognise and celebrate the talent, commitment and innovation of individuals and teams across all aspects of university life.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Liverpool in December.
