Balamrit Sokhal

Dr Sokhal is an academic foundation year doctor at UHNM and an active member of the Keele Cardiovascular Research Group. 

Dr Sokhal completed his MBChB at Keele University School of Medicine. He joined the group in his third year and continued research alongside medical school. He undertook an intercalated MPhil at Keele investigating the association between frailty and cardiovascular diseases, supervised by Dr Andrija Matetić, Professor Christian Mallen and Professor Mamas Mamas. He has received numerous awards and funding for his research, including the Wolfson Intercalated Award.  

Dr Sokhal is passionate about clinical education and research mentorship. He regularly organises teaching programmes and holds multiple leadership roles for national initiatives such as Mind the Bleep and STARSurg. 

Current research interests

Dr Sokhal’s research includes the analysis of electronic health record data (big data), with a focus on cardiovascular disease. General themes of interest include frailty, multimorbidity, epidemiology and prognosis. He also has interests in biostatistics, data science and research methodology.
