Vascular research group

Keele Vascular Research Initiative as part of the Keele Cardiovascular Research Group.

In keeping with the themes of the Cardiovascular Research Group, the Vascular Research Initiative aims to use data from the National Vascular Registry (NVR) and other sources such as HES to study outcomes and drive quality improvements for patients with a host of vascular conditions such as Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA), Aortic Dissection, Peripheral vascular disease, Diabetic foot disease and cerebrovascular disease.

Professor Arun Pherwani is the Chair of the Audit and Quality Improvement committee for the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the Clinical Lead for the National Vascular Registry. He is also the Joint Clinical Lead for the National Consultant Information Programme (NCIP).

Professor Pherwani is the UK representative on VASCUNET and the ICVR – the International Consortium of Vascular Registries and the VASCUNET representative on the European Research Hub. These groups bring in big data from international registry collaboration to report on patient outcomes.

Research topic areas

  • Outcomes following repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm
  • Reducing mortality and major amputation for patients with CLTI
  • Multi-disciplinary working (spinal surgery, TAVI) to improve outcomes for patients
