About Dr Sue Sherman
Dr Sue Sherman is interested in the psychological impact of issues surrounding cervical cancer and the human papillomavirus (HPV), and in the public awareness of and understanding about HPV which causes a range of cancers. Sue has been working on issues surrounding knowledge about HPV and related conditions for the past 9 years. She works with clinicians, charity representatives and academics at institutions including internationally, and focusses on knowledge in health care professionals and the public to understand how improving knowledge can increase engagement with screening and vaccination. Sue has recently had funding from the North Staffordshire Medical Institute to explore the psychological distress caused to women with cervical cancer by discovering that their smear history included a misread smear. Most recently, she has received funding from the Wellcome Trust to explore issues around the male HPV vaccination.
