This session will provide a live demonstration of accessing data from the UK Data Service and set out some of the initial considerations for students wishing to explore secondary data analysis. We will examine the basic practicalities of finding and accessing data, along with first steps in identifying suitable variables for analysis, exploring the dataset and documentation to establish whether cleaning, weighting and transforming are necessary, and identifying self-learning materials for students wishing to take this further.This session is NOT going to involve substantial analysis of the data and is intended primarily for those with basic statistical analysis experience who wish to understand the datasets/resources available for future work.
