Biography

My bachelor's degree was in Philosophy and Psychology from the Queen's University of Belfast in 1991. I then spent 12 very exciting and challenging years as an officer in The Parachute Regiment. Following this, I completed an MBA through the Open University and, later, a Masters in Creative Writing at Lancaster. For the past 17 years I have been working as a management consultant, specialising in Operating Model design and implementation with a focus on culture change. I decided to undertake a post graduate research degree in 2020 to make use of the covid-era lockdown.

Research and scholarship

My project will produce two tangible outputs: the creative work will be a novel about military veterans adapting to civilian life; and the critical work, which will be an oral history study of military veterans and their political identity.

Publications

My publications include three novels: 'In the Shadow of the Mountain' (2013); 'Sunrise in the Valley' (2016); and 'Along the Swift River' (2019). I also edited 'The Tide Turning' (2020) by Hannah McNeil.
