Biography

I am a Keele local, being born and raised in Stoke-On-Trent. I went to Keele to complete both my undergraduate degree in English and History and my MRES in Medieval History. Now I am a first-year PhD student under the supervision of Dr Kathleen Cushing. My PhD focuses on English Medieval heresy from 1066-1300 and high middle heresy, heterodoxy and dissent in Europe.

I am also one of the PGR representatives in the School of Humanities Research committee.

Research and scholarship

I did my Undergraduate degree on Pope Innocent III and the geopolitical background surrounding Lateran IV. Later during my MRES I used Pope Innocent III as a historical case study to revise and test Thomas Carlyle's Great Man Theory as a category for analysing significant historical figures. My broader research interests now concern the high hiddle age English church and Papacy, being fascinated by how these institutions organised and governed themselves and especially the masses. Through my PhD research, I will soon expand my knowledge to cover Medieval legal history.
