Biography
I studied at the University of Sheffield for my BA in English Literature, gained an MA in Science Fiction Studies at the University of Liverpool, and completed a doctorate at Lancaster University on the subject of fictional empathy and criminal monsters in the neoconservative USA. Prior to joining Film Studies and English at Keele, I taught at Lancaster University, Liverpool John Moores University, and Manchester Metropolitan University.
Research and scholarship
I work on crime, Gothic, neo-Victorian, and science fiction literature, film, and television in relation to contemporary politics, adaptation, monstrosity, posthumanism, and biopolitics. I have emerging research interests in game narrative and design.
I am an active member of the International Gothic Association.
