Dr David Barker
Dr David Barker is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for MA Publishing at the University of Derby. Prior to joining the University in 2017, David worked in publishing in both London and New York for more than 20 years. He worked as an Editorial Director at Continuum, where he founded the acclaimed 33 1/3 book series, before becoming a Publishing Director at Bloomsbury Academic.

Charlotte Marcus
Alumna Charlotte Marcus is a Birmingham-based freelance editor and proofreader. After graduating from Keele, Charlotte completed a master’s in English Literature and Culture at the University of Birmingham before heading into the world of publishing. Having spent just over three years working as an in-house Assistant Editor at an online medical magazine, Charlotte has dipped her toes into each stage of the editorial process, from commissioning, copywriting and editing to designing, marketing and publishing.

Her passion is for interdisciplinary communication and considering how crucial medical and scientific information is communicated to different audiences worldwide - though as a detective fiction enthusiast, she’s also partial to a little backseat sleuthing in her downtime!
