The Keele Institute for Innovation and Teaching Excellence (KIITE) is delighted to announce that 11 members of staff at Keele University have recently been awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) through the University’s HEA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Route.

HEA Fellowship provides recognition of professionalism in learning and teaching in higher education, and evidence of commitment to continuing academic development. Across the four categories of fellowship, from Associate to Principal, individuals are recognised for their practice, impact and leadership of teaching and learning.

 Ivan McGlen, School of Nursing and Midwifery comments:

“I have recently completed the HEA CPD route for Senior Fellowship. I commenced this programme in October 2021 and completed it in March 2022.    It was possibly one of the most well supported and structured programmes I have undertaken to date.  I have been involved in nurse education since 2004.  Prior to this, I spent eighteen years in clinical practice, as a midwife, and ultimately an Emergency Department nurse.  My motivation for entering education was to influence and improve clinical practice standards by working collaboratively with students, clinical partners, and academic colleagues.  Within this programme, I was actively encouraged to critically reflect upon my academic practice.  Whilst I thought this was something that I had embedded within my practice, this programme enabled me to take a more detailed and authentic appraisal of how I exercised my academic role, and how I may continue to professionally evolve.  I would highly recommend this as a programme of study.” 

 Annabel Roberts, School of Psychology/Keele Institute for Innovation and Teaching Excellence comments:

“I am so pleased to have received associate fellowship status, but I am even more grateful to have been given the opportunity to reflect on my teaching, talk to fellow applicants and colleagues about innovative teaching practices and carve out ideas for my future development.
