Biography
Ezgi Taşcıoğlu joined Keele Law School as a Lecturer in January 2019. Her primary research interests lie in socio-legal studies, intellectual disability, mental and legal capacity, and the regulation of sex, gender and sexuality. She holds a BA in Cultural Studies from Sabancı University (Turkey), an MA from the Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law (Basque Country), and a PhD in Law and Society from the University of Milan (Italy). Following her PhD, she was a Research Fellow at Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham (UK).
Research and scholarship
Ezgi’s research ranges across the fields of socio-legal studies, law in everyday life, and social and cognitive justice, and takes an interdisciplinary approach to socio-legal research at the intersections of law, social sciences and the humanities. She is the author of a number of peer-reviewed articles and chapters in edited collections, and the co-editor of Supporting Legal Capacity in Socio-Legal Context (2022, Hart).
Most recently, Ezgi has been awarded a prestigious ESRC New Investigator Grant with her research project ‘In Search of Legal Capacity: Law, Guardianship, and Supported Decision-Making in Intellectually Disabled People's Lives in Turkey’ (December 2022–May 2025). The project seeks to understand the challenges and opportunities of supporting the right to legal capacity of intellectually disabled people in Turkey by collecting new data via a range of methods, including arts-based methods with intellectually disabled people and their families.
Ezgi is a member of ESRC Peer Review College.
PhD Supervision
Ezgi is happy to supervise postgraduate research students in the areas of socio-legal studies, gender and sexuality, and intellectual disability and legal capacity, as well as those with a regional interest in Turkey, the Middle East and the global South more broadly.

Teaching
Ezgi is on research leave in 2024.
She was the Programme Director of the LLM in Law and Society between 2019–2024.
She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
