Biography

Jayne Murphy has been a Senior Lecturer in Health and Wellbeing at the University of Wolverhampton since April 2014, having started her NHS career as a community staff nurse, developing as a Specialist Practitioner in District Nursing, a Team Leader and Community Matron, eventually moving into the role of Practice Education Facilitator to support the workforce in education and training.  This is where Jayne developed a special interest in dementia care and took the opportunity of a project lead role for dementia.  At the University of Wolverhampton, as well as teaching on specialist practice and prescribing programmes, Jayne has continued her interest in dementia, becoming a certified Positive Approach to Care ™ trainer with Teepa Snow and teaching across the curriculum on dementia.

Jayne started her PhD at Keele in December 2015 after completing the MA in Medical Ethics and Law, researching Best Interests Decisions for People with Advanced Dementia: An Exploratory Study of Nurses’ Perspectives.  The research uses semi-structured interviews around hypothetical situations involving decisions about or on behalf of patients living with advanced dementia.

PhD supervisors are Dr Jonathan Hughes (Lead Supervisor), Professor Sue Read and Dr Sue Ashby.
