Small Claims Clinic
Our Small Claims Clinic is supervised by Sarah Askey. Within this clinic students will to provide advice to individuals and businesses who are unrepresented and can help by providing advice in relation to breach of contract matters, up to £10,000 and on civil procedure and court processes.
Our student advisors will be interviewing clients, draft letters of advice, advise on court process and draft basic documentation under the supervision of a solicitor employed by the University.
The Small Claims clinic currently operates a drop-in clinic that runs on a once a week basis from Newcastle-Under-Lyme Library. However, students within the Small Claims Clinic can also expect to have pre-arranged meetings with clients via MS Teams or face to face.
Students volunteering for this clinic should be available for 4 hours per week to run drop-in sessions, meet with clients, research or work on client advice/documents.
Typical matters that we can assist with within the clinic are:
- Dispute about a faulty product
- A service carried out to a poor standard
- Being owed money for work carried out
The Clinic provides invaluable practical experience to law students who are studying at Keele University.
