The Library runs various workshops on getting the best out of databases and e-journals for your studies. See our library events page for availability and to book:

Unable to attend? Take a look at our Finding journal articles... in a nutshell video, which provides a short overview of how to find journal articles for your assignments, or our Finding journal articles for your assignments Sway, that introduces you to the importance of using journal articles, creating an effective search strategy, and finding articles from the EBSCO databases.

Our interactive online module Literature Searching... in a Nutshell introduces you to the process of literature searching, and the Literature Searching... in a Nutshell video gives an overview of what literature searching is and, using an example assignment question, shows you how to develop an effective search strategy.

An e-journal or electronic journal is a periodical, such as a newspaper or academic journal, usually made up of multiple articles or issues and published in an online format for ease of use. To learn more about academic journals and why you should use them, take a look at our Journals... in a Nutshell interactive online module.

A database is an organised collection, often of academic material that has been published as an article or as part of a journal, that allows you to search using keywords, authors, and subjects to find resources you will need to reference as part of your assignments.

Databases may be dedicated to a single subject or cover several subjects, with each offering a different range of journals. Your search results will contain citation information and also often include an abstract or allow you to view the full-text article online. If the full-text is not accessible from your database search, search Library Search for Keele's electronic or print availability or alternative access options, such as our resource-sharing request service.

You can view journals and databases relevant to a particular school or subject area on your subject resources page, or browse through our A-Z of online resources.

EBSCO databases include a mix of full-text articles, indexing, and abstracts for several thousand journals. For access, please log in with your Keele username and password.
