Biography
Dr David Cabrera is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Bioengineering in the School of Pharmacy and Bioengineering at Keele University.
Dr Cabrera graduated in Materials Engineering at the University of Seville, Spain, in 2013. There he cultivated a special interest in magnetic materials and magnetic instrument development while working in Prof Victorino Franco’s group. Later, Dr Cabrera moved to Madrid, Spain, to complete his Masters and PhD studies in Condensed Matter Physics, Nanoscience and Biophysics at the Research Institute IMDEA Nanociencia. During this time, Dr Cabrera started his transition from the field of material engineering to the multidisciplinary world of nanomedicine working in the group of Prof Francisco Terán. There, he mainly focused in developing advanced tailored instrumentation for characterising exotic properties of magnetic nanoparticles for cancer treatment. In 2018, Dr Cabrera moved to Keele University as a Postdoctoral Research Associate joining Dr Alan Harper´s group for the aim of developing a magnetic nanoparticle-based therapy to improve current stroke treatments. In 2020, Dr Cabrera was awarded a prestigious Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowship and continues his research in cardiovascular nanomedicine at Keele University. In 2024, Dr Cabrera became Lecturer in Bioengineering.
