Biography

Lecturer and simulation lead for MSci Paramedic Program at Keele School of Medicine.

Karen has extensive experience in Higher Education specifically Allied Health, medical education, and modern apprenticeship programs. She has worked previously in a medical school as Senior Lecturer in Clinical Skills and Simulation and led and implemented, Interprofessional and Simulation-based education within all former departments as well as current.

Karen has extensive experience in emergency and non-emergency ambulance services which includes training and mentoring roles.

She has embraced the opportunity to teach and collaborate with other Universities and stakeholders learning from and with other Ambulance and prehospital care providers. This has taken me to Finland, Poland, China, Australia, South Africa, and Malawi over the years.

• Responsible for providing direction and leadership in the day-to-day management and organisation of the program
• Responsible for monitoring and tracking of student, retention, attendance, and progression.
• FHEP’s Representative – College of Paramedics
• Develop four-year cohort delivery plans
• Manage module leaders to ensure quality standards and consistency
• Facilitate opportunities for students to develop cohort identity

External Examiner for Demont Ford University – Paramedic Apprenticeships | Sept 2020 – 2022

External examining provides one of the principal means for the maintenance of nationally comparable standards within autonomous higher education institutions.

• Act as independent and impartial advisors, providing informed comment on the standards set and student achievement in relation to those standards.
• Provide institutional quality assurance by producing reports and moderation processes.
• Serve on assessment boards with responsibility for programmes, covering the full range of duties for which the board is responsible.

External examiners are also appointed to cover provision validated by the university but arranged and offered by collaborative partners.

• Responsible for the day-to-day management and organisation of Clinical skills within the MBChB and Physician Associate program.
• Lead plans, organises, coordinates, and resources module and delivery of Clinical Skills and Simulation
• Ensure clinical skills and simulation content was reviewed and updated to reflect changes in General Medical Council requirements.
• Ensure that content and methods of delivery and learning materials will support students in meeting defined learning objectives across clinical skills and simulation.
