Biography

I received my clinical training as a Physiotherapist at the University College Hospital, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Worked clinically and in community settings on the management of musculoskeletal disorders and health promotion projects. For a broader insight into preventive medicine and public healthcare, I studied public health at the University of Kuopio, Finland and as a public health specialist, I continued in research and development of community initiatives concerned with the right to enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health; and expanding the access of vulnerable groups to health through lifestyle modifications.

I obtained a PhD in 2013 (Public health/ lifestyle exercise for bone health and osteoporosis) at Staffordshire University and later joined Keele University supporting its primary care research, evidence synthesis and implementation programme (across a broad remit including musculoskeletal and comorbid long-term conditions).

In addition to my clinical background, I have been trained as a public health practitioner and primary healthcare researcher. Having developed expertise in evidence synthesis and implementation science using quantitative and qualitative methodologies. My research focuses on musculoskeletal conditions, and self-management of comorbid long-term conditions but I have a strong interest in health promotion, health literacy, shared decision making, patient-centered care and health services research.

I have a deep-seated commitment to public health, facilitation of learning, and communication of astute health systems principles, both to lay and research communities. Other aspects of my research work thus include focuses on patient experience, patient and public involvement in health and health research.

I work in partnership with Keele’s Impact accelerator unit and the Global health Institute to improve the dissemination of evidence outputs to patients and the public, and to support mobilisation of research knowledge into practice nationally in the UK and internationally in low-and middle-income settings.
