Biography

Steve joins the School of Medicine, Keele University with 25 years of teaching experience. He is a Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society (FBPhS) and Advance HE (FHEA). In his most recent post, Steve was Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Year 2 Director of the MB BCh BAO Medicine programme in the School of Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Medical University of Bahrain. During this time, he was an active member of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) Clinical Research Committee who oversee clinical trials in the Kingdom.

Steve obtained an honours degree in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Loughborough University before moving to Leicester University Medical School for his PhD and a postdoc studying inositide signalling under Stefan Nahorski. In 1994, he moved to NIEHS, NIH, USA to work with Steve Shears and gain biochemical experience, continuing in the area of inositol phosphates. He returned to the UK (Dundee University, University of Bath), having received a Royal Society University Research Fellowship.

Steve was also a Reader in Pharmacology at The School of Pharmacy, Wolverhampton University, where he was Admissions Tutor and course leader for the Pharmacology programme.

Research and scholarship

Steve has a strong research background, having over 60 peer-reviewed publications (h-index: 30, Google Scholar), mostly in the fields of biochemical, cell and molecular pharmacology.
