Biography

Sue is a social scientist who graduated from Keele in 2019 with a PhD that explored tacit knowledge in dementia service settings. Since 2023 she has been working as a DEMCOM Fellow, funded jointly through the NIHR and the Alzheimer's Society. Her research focus for this fellowship is The Place of Dementia and Dementia care in Integrated Care Systems.

Prior to working at Keele, Sue worked in a range of roles in the NHS, Social Services and the Voluntary and Charitable sector. This included 13 years working in Research and Development at a local NHS trust and, more recently, in the service evaluation team at Dementia UK (2018-2023).

Research and scholarship

Throughout Sue's career she has worked closely with health and social care practitioners in dementia, learning disability and mental health services. These experiences have informed research interests in knowledge in care organisations; how Time is conceptualised in service settings, and theory-driven evaluation within health and care services.

Research and evaluations undertaken include a Realist Evaluation of Admiral Nursing, several evaluations of simple technologies to support people with dementia to self-management their condition, and data collection for NHS portfolio studies.

Sue is a member of the Early Career Researcher sub-group for the NIHR Dementia Portfolio Development Group, and co-leads"RAID-ER" which is a recently established DEMCOM Realist Evaluation in Dementia Special Interest Group.
