Keele’s new state-of-the-art Central Science Laboratories (CSL) have been commended at a prestigious building awards ceremony celebrating the best new developments in the region.
The laboratory facility was named the winner of the Best Public Service or Educational Building category at the LABC West Midlands Building Excellence awards, which are held annually to recognise excellence and innovation across the construction sector.
The awards also honour excellent people and projects across the construction industry, and to win this award is a prestigious achievement for the CSL and the teams behind its construction.
The CSL represents a huge investment in Keele’s science facilities, bringing together practical teaching across a range of disciplines, and greatly enhances the University’s teaching provision, featuring industrial research-grade analytical and laboratory equipment that will be used by students in their day-to-day laboratory teaching.
The CSL facility, along with the recently-opened Sir David Attenborough Laboratories in our School of Life Sciences, will transform how our science students are taught and learn by having access to the latest equipment. Students will benefit from transformational teaching in a space designed to encourage and enable collaborative and interdisciplinary working.
Chris Brumby, Senior Project Manager from Keele’s Estates and Development Directorate, said: “The CSL building is a facility to be proud of and the external recognition is deserved by the large and diverse range of people involved in the project.”
