Biography
Professional Doctorate Candidate, MA , PG Cert, BSc (Hons), Dip N RN (Adult ) NMC Teacher, FHEA.
Emma is the Academic Lead for Admission, Recruitment and Marketing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery . She provides a single point of within the school contact working with colleagues in GSRA on all activity relating to admissions, enquiries, UK and International recruitment, widening access, marketing, and market development. Emma is dedicated to ensure that applicants have an excellent experience through the admissions process. Emma is also a Adult Nurse Lecturer in the school and has been working in education since 2013.
Emma’s clinical background, consisting of 18 yrs working in the NHS in various settings. She qualified in 1993 and has worked in Medical, Surgical Nursing, Medical Assessment Units, Haematology and Dermatology specialities. She then specialised as a Emergency Nurse Practitioner in nurse led Minor Injuries and promoted to Senior Sister / team leader role. Throughout her extensive career in clinical practice Emma has always had a passion and enthusiasm for education learning and teaching and supporting nursing students in the clinical placement area. This passion leading to her role of Lead Clinical Placement Facilitator and Preceptorship Lead in a Mental Health and Learning Disability Trust. This role predominantly supporting student in clinical practice ensuring they have an excellent learning experience. After 8 years in this successful role Emma moved into Higher Education in 2013 into a lecturer position.
With the school Emma has held a number of roles, including award Lead ,module/Year lead, for pre- registration and post registration, Director of Internationalisation , Study abroad Tutor.
Emma Completed her MSc in Professional Education 2015 and is a fellow with the Higher Education Academy.
She is also a Professional Doctorate student commenced in October 2020.
Emma is also the schools admissions link tutor with Keele University International College (KUIC).
Emma’s professional interests are in leadership, management and team working, leadership development, dermatology, minor injuries, diabetes, mentorship, learning and teaching and learning in clinical practice.
Research and scholarship
Emma’s academic and research interest are in student nurses leadership development, and their learning and teaching in clinical practice.
Teaching
Emma is part of the Module team for all Part 3 (Year 3) modules in the Future Nurse BSc pre-registration curriculum.
Emma is an Academic Assessor/Mentor for pre-registration students.
