Health and Safety
We provide professional advice on health and safety issues and are responsible for the development and monitoring of health and safety policies. Statistics on accidents at work are collated and reported to the University's Health and Safety Standing Committee and ultimately the University Council. Investigations are carried out when required. The Department monitors risk management by Schools and Departments and organises three-yearly safety inspections of work areas on behalf of Council.
The Department includes specialists who can advise on fire, radiation and biological safety matters. Matters such as VDU workstation assessments, health and safety monitoring and hazardous waste disposal are organised through the Department.
