Biography

Kate is the Pharmacy Placements Lead within the School of Pharmacy & Bioengineering, having been appointed in July 2023. Since the introduction of the GPhC Standards for the Initial Education and Training of Pharmacist (2021) and the inclusion of undergraduate pharmacy placements on the NHSe WT&E tariff (2022), undergraduate pharmacy placements have grown exponentially. Keele has the ambitious plan of delivering 30 weeks of placements to all its MPharm students across the four-year programme, with the objective of delivering this by academic year 2024 - 25.

Prior to this Kate's Pharmacy career has been very clinically orientated. Kate completed her pre-registration year at Papworth NHS Trust, before moving to Nottingham Universities NHS Trust to work as a resident pharmacist and then as a specialist Pharmacist in Cardiothoracics. She then moved back home and worked for the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust for eleven years. During this time, she had a variety of roles including Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner Renal Medicine & Deputy Principal Pharmacist for Medicine. As the Surgical Pharmacist Team Leader, she worked with the Acute Pain team; completing her independent prescribing in acute pain. Kate currently utilises these skills whilst working with the UKCPA Pain Group and whilst working for the Keele University PROMPPT research team. Kate then completed her MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and worked as an Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner at a GP practice in Stoke-on-Trent for over four years.
