Intellectual Property Management Code of Practice
The University’s approach to University Intellectual Property (IP) prioritises impact over income generation, with the aim of achieving wider societal benefits rather than shorter term commercial returns to the University.
The University will actively identify, protect and support the development of commercially valuable IP, where there is a clear opportunity for it to have a significant and positive societal and/or economic benefit. The terms of any sharing of IP with industry partners and (for any spinouts) with investors will facilitate its swift exploitation to achieve impact. We will work line with best practice in this area, as highlighted in the Independent Review of Spinouts, and ensure our decision-making and support processes reflect this.
This is an important area of collaboration across Midlands Innovation Universities (MI), in which Keele University is a partner. MI have worked together to establish a Patient Capital vehicle (Midlands Mindforge Ltd) to support the commercialisation of University Research, including spinouts and industrial partnerships involved in exploiting University-owned intellectual property.
