Posted on 03 November 2014

Professor Claudio Piga, Keele Management School, will examine “Everything you wanted to know about online pricing by airlines and hotels, but never dared to test” in the second lecture in Keele's programme of Inaugural Professorial Lectures 2014-15, on Tuesday, 11 November 2014, in the Westminster Theatre, Chancellor's Building, on the University campus.

Claudio Piga is Professor of Economics at the Management School.  His research interests cover a number of areas in applied microeconomics: pricing, with a particular focus on the airline and the travel and tourism industry; oligopoly theory with an emphasis on models of localised competition; innovation and total factor productivity.

His research output was published in such journals as the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Industrial Economics, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, Industrial and Corporate Change and Regional Science and Urban Economics, among others. The findings from his research on airline pricing were covered by the press and the radio nationally and internationally.

In the spring of 2014 he completed a Research Report commissioned by the UK Business Innovation and Skills Department, on the effect of training and R&D investment on the productivity of British firms.

Keele's programme of Inaugural Lectures are given by newly established professors within the University and aim to give an illuminating account of the speaker's own subject specialism. The lectures, which start at 6 pm in the Westminster Theatre, are chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Foskett.

This lecture is free and open to all.
