Higher Horizons launch event
My hope is to inspire those young people who think that university is not for them, and to show them that it is.
The Higher Education Funding Council of England have ploughed £25 million into the University Outreach Sector to encourage universities to work collaboratively with young people from local state schools.
Keele University has been chosen to lead a Network – named Higher Horizons – that hosts a launch event with over 250 Children on campus on 24th June 2015.
The event will see sessions delivered from partner universities & colleges, including Keele University, Oxford University, Chester University, Staffordshire University, Reaseheath, Manchester Metropolitan, Derby University & Harper Adams.
Ant Sutcliffe, who manages the Network, said, “We have 18 months to set up as many quality collaborative activities for the 171 schools who are within our regional network as is possible, and today represents the start of that. My hope is to inspire those young people who think that university is not for them, and to show them that it is. It is accessible. We have incredibly talented young people in our region.”
The event on 24th June will also welcome children from further afield, and from other regional networks, in the hope to give the 14 & 15 year olds an educational experience from outside their usual region.
