Keele University has been named as the most affordable place in the country to be a student, topping a table of 50 institutions that were compared for rent, travel and living costs in the UK, according to a new study.

Compiled by credit card company Marbles.com, the findings are aimed at helping students to come to an informed decision when applying to university.

Along with weekly rent and travel prices, the study looked at the average cost of a cinema ticket, Keele’s nearest being in Newcastle Under Lyme just two miles away, student gym membership and the cost of a pint and a kebab.

Professor Fiona Cownie, Pro Vice Chancellor of Education and Student Experience said:

With our sector-leading student satisfaction results, both in terms of student experience and satisfaction with their course, Keele’s ability to offer value for money is a key factor in helping students reach university and having a positive experience whilst they are here.

Keele has also been ranked as one of the best value universities in the UK in a new report compiled by Expert Market. The report cross-references a range of variables including typical student outgoings like the price of a pint and the cost of renting, as well as employment prospects post-graduation.

Keele is ranked 2nd out of the 60 universities included in the report thanks to its excellent graduate prospects and low living costs.
