Keele in top ten for on-campus Wi-Fi
Keele University has been ranked in the top ten for Wi-Fi on its campus, according to data based on student reviews.
Keele was ranked 6th based on data compiled by StudentCrowd, an online review community for students. The data was collated from over 7,000 StudentCrowd reviews on behalf of Jisc, which manages the eduroam network within the UK and serves more than 95% of higher education institutions.
StudentCrowd asked reviewers to rate universities on criteria including campus facilities, students’ unions and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi access has become an essential for many people and students are no exception. Research published earlier this year by facilities management company Sodexo found that Wi-Fi is of the highest importance to the current generation of students, with 79% of UK students considering it the most important service in their university environment.
Sandra Gillham, IT Service Manager at Keele University, said: “With students relying extensively on digital content, using a variety of mobile technologies, it is important to provide a fast and reliable Wi-Fi service on campus. Our IT Services staff at Keele work hard behind the scenes to ensure that this service is available for staff, students and visitors across campus, and it is excellent to have some recognition of this.”
Sarah Davies, head of higher education and student experience at Jisc, said: “With students relying on digital devices for study, personal organisation and leisure, it's no wonder they see good Wi-Fi connectivity as a key aspect of their study environment. Generally, universities are responding well to this challenge, with 80% of HE students reporting that they have access to reliable Wi-Fi at their usual place of study.”
