Keele schools receive bronze Athena SWAN award
Keele University’s School of Law and School of Pharmacy have been successful in achieving Athena SWAN Bronze awards.
The Athena SWAN Charter recognises commitment to advancing gender equality in academia. Both schools have shown examples of good practice already in place, and the Bronze award recognises their work towards complete equality, and further actions that will be put in place to advance towards the Silver level.
The School of Law application, led by Professor Marie-Andrée Jacob, and the School of Pharmacy application, led by Carolyn Voisey, have both been awarded a Bronze Department Award, which will run until 2021.
Professor Marie-Andrée Jacob commented:
“The School of Law has a long-standing collegial and egalitarian ethos combined with a tradition of research and education with respect to gender, sexuality and the law. The Athena SWAN Bronze award reflects that we take stock of the progress we have made in recent years but that we remain alert of ongoing challenges, and in turn propose an ambitious action plan to redress inequalities, paying special attention to early-career academic and professional services staff.”
Dr Voisey commented:
“We are delighted to have been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze award as it recognises of all the work we do in the School of Pharmacy to ensure equality and diversity. The award is a tribute to all the staff and students within the School who put in a huge effort to make sure that the principles of Athena SWAN are embedded into our culture at every level, and to ensure that everyone feels valued.”
