Keele University marks Refugee Week
Keele University is hosting a range of events to mark national Refugee Week 2017.
Refugee Week, which runs from June 19th to 25th, is a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.
To celebrate Refugee Week, Keele is supporting local community project Sanctus, a support group for refugees and asylum seekers, which aims to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for all those who find their way to the project.
The University’s Student Support and Development Services team and the Chapel are running a collection as part of Refugee Week with all donated items going to individuals in great need. Items needed include food, toiletries and baby items - for a full list please visit Sanctus.
The University will also be raising awareness of all the work that takes place across campus for refugees and asylum seekers. To find out more visit the Student Support and Development Services Blog for daily news stories throughout the week.
During Refugee Week the University is also celebrating its Article 26 Scholarship students. Under Article 26 an undergraduate student who has sought refuge in the UK can be offered a university scholarship. Keele launched its first scholarship scheme for such students in 2014, to promote access to Higher Education for people who have fled persecution and sought asylum in the UK.
