Over 450 students at Keele University are moving into their new halls of residence this week.

In response to student demand, the state-of-the-art development, close to the centre of campus, features en-suite rooms with study zones and clustered bedrooms, with large open plan social spaces comprising fully-fitted kitchens, dining and lounge areas.

Kitchen and lounge spaces are shared by six to eight students, and each lounge benefits from a double-height window offering excellent views of the campus. The halls offer excellent levels of thermal and energy efficiency, making them highly sustainable, in line with the University’s objective to embed sustainability across all of its activities.

Sue Underwood, Head of Accommodation Services at Keele University commented:

“The reaction to the new accommodation has been fantastic. Both students and staff have had the chance to visit the halls before they officially open, and the comments have been overwhelmingly positive. Our students were involved throughout the design process, and these halls have been shaped by their suggestions. We’re really thrilled to see our students move in, and hope they’ll be very happy in their new campus homes.”

New resident Maria, who is studying Medicine at Keele, commented:

“I love my new room with its double bed and spacious desk to work at. The highlight of the kitchen is the large table for group meals. Together with the sofas and the monitor, it allows for a good night in with friends.”

Phil Butters, Director of Estates and Development at Keele University, said:

“As a leading university, we want to continue to offer students a breadth of choice and availability of accommodation, for both new and returning students, who benefit from our sector-leading student experience through living and studying on Keele’s campus.”
