Professor Robert Sneyd visits his ancestral family home at Keele
Professor Robert Sneyd, Dean of the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, has recently visited the Sneyds’ ancestral family home at Keele Hall.
Professor Sneyd was the guest speaker at the Clinical Leadership and Management Course for Anaesthetists, run by Keele School of Medicine’s Clinical Leadership Academy (CLA).
The Sneyd family can be traced back in North Staffordshire to the late 13th century, but they came into possession of the Keele estate in 1544. Keele Hall was rebuilt in 1860 by Ralph Sneyd (1793-1870) to the design of the celebrated Victorian architect Anthony Salvin.
Professor Sneyd commented:
“It’s a real pleasure to come here to Keele, both as a Sneyd and as a medical school Dean. We have great respect for the Keele Medical School - both Plymouth Medical School and Keele share a similar philosophy of high quality clinical education tightly aligned to the needs of the NHS.
“I’m a council member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and I’ve come in that capacity to join the trainees, who are so important to us, because they are the future.”
Professor Sneyd was welcomed to Keele by Alwyn Ralphs, Director of Postgraduate Studies, Jenny Cowpe, Director of the Keele Clinical Leadership Academy, Wynne Thomas, Deputy Director and Senior Teaching Fellow and Jane Eccleston, Postgraduate Team Coordinator for the Academy. He then met 33 students from the Clinical Leadership and Management for Anaesthetists’ course.
The three-day CLA courses aim to prepare participants for the transition from training to independent specialist practice at Consultant level, introducing them to contemporary concepts of leadership and management, as well as offering insights into the consultant appointment process.
