Five Keele alumni and three honorary graduates celebrated in New Year Honours
Five alumni and three honorary graduates of Keele University have been recognised in the 2018 New Year Honours.
The individuals were recognised for their services to health, education, design, and understanding of politics.
Mrs Angela Pedder, OBE, was awarded a DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire). Angela, who was Chief Executive of Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust for 19 years, was recognised for services to healthcare. Angela completed her MBA Health Executive at Keele in 1998.
Professor Richard English was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire). Richard, who is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Politics at Queen's University Belfast, was recognised for services to the understanding of modern day terrorism and political history.
Richard completed a PhD in History at Keele in 1990.
Dr Tracey Cooper was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), for services to midwifery. Tracey, who completed a BSc in Midwifery at Keele in 1999, is currently Head of Midwifery at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Colin Roy Hopkins was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to education. School Governor and Chair of Trustees at the Church of England Central Education Trust, Roy completed his MBA Education at Keele in 2006.
Dr Sanjiv Shridhar was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), for services to primary care. Sanjiv completed his MBA Health Executive (Health Planning and Management) at Keele in 1994, and is currently a GP in Cheshire.
Professor Richard Lilford was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for services to health research. Richard was made an Honorary Doctor of Science at Keele in 2014, and is currently Professor of Public Health at the University of Warwick.
Professor Richard Sennett was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to design. Richard is currently Chair of the LSE Cities Programme, and was made an Honorary Doctor of Letters at Keele in 2008.
Lord Melvyn Bragg was appointed as a Member of the Order of the Companions of Honour for services to broadcasting and the arts. Lord Bragg was awarded Honorary Doctor of the University at Keele in 2016.
In addition to the five alumni and two honorary graduates recognised, Emeritus Professor John Sloboda, who worked at Keele from 1974-2008, was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list for his services to psychology and music.
