Student Module Feedback

The University has a Student Module Feedback (SMF) Policy that applies to all modules. The Policy is available here.

Explorance Blue is the University's system for students to provide feedback on the modules they have studied, which is used for the purposes of teaching quality enhancement. Blue is used for the majority of modules, although there are some exceptions for specific areas.

Click on the drop-down sections below for more information. Queries can be sent to student.evaluations@keele.ac.uk

When surveys open, you can access surveys for your modules in one of two ways:

  1. an email invitation with a link to the surveys
  2. via a pop-up message that will appear when you log-in to the KLE (or Canvas for online programmes).

Click on the 'Start Now' button, select your responses and add any comments.

A short video guide is available here.

The Policy includes the following important principles:

  • The purpose of student module evaluation is to support the enhancement of future provision.
  • Students should have confidence that their evaluation will be treated with respect and valued, that their comments will be acted upon where possible, and that they will receive a collective response.
  • Students should complete module evaluations honestly and with consideration and respect for the teaching and support staff for each module.

Please note the following statement: Your feedback must at all times be respectful and constructive. Use professional language to get your points across and do not name staff or fellow students in a derogatory manner. Remember our Keele values of dignity and respect for others.

Surveys operate under the principle of anonymity. Your identity will never be disclosed to any staff teaching on the module, or your Academic Mentor or other staff in your School.

Module leaders and teaching staff on your modules receive a summary of responses, including any comments. Survey results are also available to senior staff, including Heads of School and School Directors of Education.

NB: in extreme situations, such as where a safeguarding issue is disclosed, a request can be made to lift anonymity with respect to a specific response. This concern would be reported to the Blue Admin team to consider if the case justifies the deanonymisation of the student response. If supported, the issue would be reported to Student Services to follow up.

Module Leaders are asked to:

  1. Review module reports and reflect on the results and student comments.

  2. Communicate the outcomes of module feedback to students, outlining how issues raised have been responded to, including via Student Staff Voice Committee (SSVC) meetings.

  3. Summarise and reflect on the results in module reviews.

It is expected that a detailed summary of the quantitative and qualitative feedback given by students and actions planned based on it should be shared with students who studied the module before the module is taught again.

It is good practice for the module leader to indicate to the new module cohort the changes which have been made as a result of previous student feedback. Feedback on Student Module Feedback for each module on a programme, along with a programme level summary of feedback responses, should be included as an item for discussion at the Student Staff Voice Committee (SSVC) meeting immediately following the teaching of the module(s).

If you are dissatisfied with your module or programme, please use the University's Student Complaints process to ensure a proper consideration of the issues.
