Professor Gwyn Williams
Gwyn’s past research centered on the cell and molecular biology of apoptosis in order to provide the basis for dissecting the events that lead to inappropriate cell survival in cancer and autoimmune disease. This work has mainly been based on in vitro studies of T-leukaemic lines and has been extended to other blood cells and to breast and prostate cancers. Gwyn’s current project, in collaboration with Dan Tonge, seeks to isolate non-protein-coding RNAs controlling cell survival and cell proliferation through the selection of functionally active sequences from the whole human genome, and subsequently to identify them by next generation sequencing.
