When a GP needs a specialist’s input with the care of a patient, they may use Advice & Guidance. Advice & Guidance is an electronic way for a GP to ask the specialist a clinical question, and for the specialist to reply to the GP with an answer. The GP normally receives an answer within a few days. The BADGER study is looking at the use of Advice & Guidance by GPs and specialists and we want to find out about patients’ experiences and your views of how Advice & Guidance is and can be used by GPs and specialists.
We are looking to recruit patients whose GP has recently used Advice & Guidance in relation to their care.
What is Advice and Guidance?
When a GP needs a specialist’s input with the care of a patient, they may use Advice & Guidance. Advice & Guidance is an electronic way for a GP to ask the specialist a clinical question, and for the specialist to reply to the GP with an answer. The GP normally receives an answer within a few days. This is different to a routine referral to see a specialist which does not allow a conversation between the GP and the specialist and can take months or years to see the specialist:
We would like to talk to you about your thoughts and experiences of Advice & Guidance, even if you have not heard of it before. To help us to hear from a wide range of people, we will ask you to provide a little information about yourself. We will use that information when deciding who to contact to arrange an interview. This reply slip will be stored securely and destroyed at the end of the study. We are only asking you to agree to be contacted about this, you can still decide when you are contacted whether you wish to take part.
