Biography

I studied biology and chemistry in Versailles, France. I then specialised in inorganic/physical chemistry and obtained my degree and Master from Versailles. I moved cross-Atlantic to Oklahoma State University (USA) to work as a Research Assistant on materials chemistry for one year. Then, I chose to do a PhD in collaboration with Synetix, ICI at UMIST, Manchester, UK dealing with the formation mechanism of mesoporous materials and their architecture in terms of surface curvature. I carried out my first post-doctoral research at the Max Planck for Colloids and Interfaces Sciences, Golm, Germany on hybrid porous materials and then at the Institut de Sciences et d’Ingenierie Supramoleculaires in Strasbourg, in a BASF laboratory on the design of nanoporous foams. I came back to the UK in 2007 as a Lecturer in Chemistry and Forensic Sciences at Keele University.

I finished an MBA in Senior Leadership in the Spring 2021 and got promoted to Senior Lecturer in the summer 2021. I work very closely with employers on various projects and my ambition is to help with narrowing any potential skills gaps and bring employability at the heart of our teaching.

Research and scholarship

Foam I am interested in porous materials, both from an academic and industrial point of view. I have developed a strong expertise in colloid chemistry, physical chemistry and polymer chemistry.

Employers' Engagement

My employers’ engagement activities are far ranging and have always been part of my remit, whether through (i) finding placements for students registered on the former MSc Analytical Science for Industry, (ii) co-chairing the University Employers Advisory Group, or (iii) my leadership of the Research Scientist apprenticeship (delivered through the MSc in Technical Leadership, with 3 different strands: Analytical science / Biomedical science / Specialist data processing).

My recent employers portfolio includes:

  • Astra Zeneca
  • Avantor Sciences
  • Lancashire Constabulary
  • Biocomposites
  • Element Materials Technology Analytical Services Ltd (former Hall Analytical)
  • Sheffield NHS Trust
  • Barnsley NHS Trust
  • Rotherham NHS Trust
  • Doncaster NHS Trust
  • Cambridge NHS Trust
  • Leeds NHS Trust
  • Fera Science
  • Pfizer
  • DSTL
  • Building Adhesives
  • UKHSA
