Biography

Dr. Moharana is a member of the Stars WIth Pulsation and Eclipses (SWIPE) project. He works on extracting precise stellar parameters that are later used in tests of stellar evolution models. He completed his PhD at Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center, where he worked on Compact Hierarchical Triples. He did an Integrated Master's degree from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, where he worked on evolved stars in globular clusters.

He is a trained painter and an autodidactic graphic designer. He is interested in working on projects which combine art and science.

Research and scholarship

Dr. Moharana is interested in stellar observational astrophysics. He is especially interested in the physics of multiple-star systems. Currently, he works on studying pulsations in binary systems. He is also involved in the spectroscopic studies of Compact Hierarchical Triples (CHTs).

Collaborations and grants awards

Dr. Moharana is the PI of the PRELUIDUM grant (2021/41/N/ST9/02746) financed by the National Science Center, Poland. A budget of 203,000 PLN was granted for studies of CHTs.
He was also an Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) project fellow where he worked on the project "Studying Milky Way structure using UV star counts".

Dr. Moharana was also awarded the Young Researcher of the Year 2023 by Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center for his work on triple star systems, specifically for the integration of theoretical studies with observations.
