Biography

Dr Mookherjee has a B.A. (Hons) in Law from Balliol College, Oxford University and MA and D.Phil degrees in Political Philosophy from the University of York. After completing her DPhil. thesis, and before arriving at Keele in September 2004, she held temporary teaching positions at the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford and Stirling.

Research and scholarship

Dr Mookherjee’s main research interests are in contemporary political philosophy, and especially in issues of multiculturalism, feminism, citizenship, human rights and global justice. Her research is motivated by the aim of considering how attention to diverse identities and affiliations can help to clarify normative political concepts and ideals.

Main current projects focus on the cosmopolitan interpretation of the politics of recognition as a response to global poverty; an application of Simone de Beauvoir’s framework of recognition to religious diversity; and the multicultural interpretation of Amartya Sen’s capabilities approach.

Dr Mookherjee is a member of the Executive Committee of the UK Association of Social and Political Philosophy, and regularly referees papers for journals such as Res Publica, Hypatia and Politics, Religion and Ideology.
