Maggie Aderin-Pocock
Maggie Aderin-Pocock (1968 - ) is a British space scientist and science communicator known for her contributions to astronomy and her efforts to promote STEM education. She has become a prominent figure in popularizing science and inspiring young people, particularly from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue careers in STEM fields.
Aderin-Pocock's journey into science was motivated by her fascination with the universe. Despite facing challenges due to dyslexia, she pursued her education and obtained a degree in physics from Imperial College London and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. Her research has focused on the development of innovative instruments for space missions.
One of her notable achievements was working on the James Webb Space Telescope, one of the most powerful telescopes ever launched. Her contributions to the project involved designing part of the telescope's infrared spectrograph.
