Applying to University
We offer a programme of outreach talks aimed at different year groups, parents and guardians, and access students. The talks have been designed to cover every aspect of applying to study at Keele University and focus on themes such as making the most of open days, writing personal statements, the benefits of going to University, student finance and building self-confidence.

Dragons' Den |
Join us for Dragons' Den: University Edition, an interactive workshop where students learn about university life and create a unique course or student society. Teams will then pitch their innovative ideas to the class, honing their creativity, teamwork and presentation skills. Due to the interactive nature of the session, it needs to be delivered in a classroom environment. Please note that this session has a maximum limit of approx. 30 students. |
Introduction to university - myth busting! |
Exploring common myths about going to university and learning the truth behind them. We will also provide a light introduction to university and the reasons that students choose to study. This session is suitable to be held in either a classroom or lecture theatre environment. |
Making the right choice in Year 11 |
Every year there are students who have not made the right subject choice for certain degrees at university, this talk is designed to help students make the right choice in their Level 3 qualifications and provide some inspiration for those who are unsure on what to do next. This session is suitable to be held in either a classroom or a lecture theatre environment. |
Student finance and budgeting |
A session showing what financial support is available for students from England and how the application process works. It will explain how to apply for support and what the repayments are post university. It can also be adapted for students from Wales. This session is suitable to be held in either a classroom or a lecture theatre environment. |
Subject Introductions |
These sessions are designed to give students an insight into certain subject areas and courses at Keele University. Presentations will include pathways that lend themselves to those degree courses, typical entry requirements, overview of modules that could be studied, employment opportunities and additional support available to students. Please note that this session will be delivered by a member of the Undergraduate Student Recruitment and Access Team. This session is suitable to be held in either a classroom or lecture theatre environment. |

A full introduction to the UCAS process and what to expect when filling out an application. It will cover the timeline that students should be working towards, an overview of how admissions at university works and what students will need to do at different points in the application cycle. Benefits of University - Myth-Busting! |

Employability Skills |
A session to understand the importance of developing employability and transferrable skills and how they can prepare students for their future. Due to the interactive nature of the session, it needs to be delivered in a classroom environment. |
Improve your Confidence and Bounce Back |
An introduction to confidence, the importance in believing in ourselves and how we can bounce back during times of change. This session is suitable to be held in either a classroom or lecture theatre environment. |
Moving On |
A session to help students to make final university choices after receiving their offer for their chosen course. This session is suitable to be held in either a classroom or lecture theatre environment. |
Personal Statements |
This talk will introduce students to the UCAS personal statement and explain how it is used in the application process. It will show why the statement is important, provide some ideas on a structure to use and show some real examples of good and bad statements that have previously been submitted. This session is suitable to be held in either a classroom or lecture theatre environment. |
