Steps2Medicine

Steps2Medicine is a unique opportunity for year 12 students to prepare for making a medical school application. Keele University School of Medicine is committed to selecting students for the Medicine (MBChB) course from a wide range of backgrounds. Widening participation schemes are designed to increase the numbers of successful applications to medical school from students belonging to under-represented groups.

We have carefully designed our FREE Steps2Medicine programme to include 6 interactions between November 2024 and October 2025. The programme is likely to include:

  • A day learning about the role of the Doctor
  • An opportunity to take part in a lab-based session
  • Complete placement day in a clinical setting
  • A chance to complete a poster assessment
  • UCAT guidance
  • Interview and MMI preparation

Completion of this programme will entitle applicants who meet our academic and UCAT requirements to an interview and a reduced grade offer if successful at interview.

If you are eligible and apply to study medicine at participating medical schools*, you will receive the same consideration in the selection process as offered to graduates of the named WP programme delivered by that medical school. Please note that meeting the minimum requirements for Steps2Medicine will not guarantee that students will be eligible to apply to all UKWPMED medical schools.

*Birmingham Medical School, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, HullYork Medical School, Keele University School of Medicine, Leicester Medical School, Manchester Medical School and Peninsula Medical School

Applications for Steps2Medicine 24-25 are now closed.
