What were you doing before you came to Keele?

Working for an environmental consultancy, it was an international organisation with an engineering and environmental department. Working on approvals for major engineering projects such as roads, dams and city planning, it also carried out environmental assessments for governments and private firms.

Why did you choose to come to Keele?

During my undergraduate studies I discovered an interest in renewable energy and my work experience in environmental consultancy opened my eyes to the real importance of environmental sustainability and how it factors into all aspects of development and life in general. I therefore wanted to pursue a course that combined the two interests together and of all the schools I researched, Keele University had the course I desired to study. Further to that I was really interested to come to the UK, because UK has one of the best education systems in the world.

What did you like best about the University?

So many good things – first of all the quality of education at Keele University is of impeccable standard, very practical and relevant to the job market. The lecturers are of high calibre and are passionate about imparting knowledge to their students. In addition to that Keele is a very beautiful and serene campus which makes it conducive for study. I also loved the campus arrangement where buildings are close together; student accommodation, chapel, the library and the students union, making it easy to manoeuvre around the campus. The people are also very welcoming and warm from the students to the lecturers and also the non-teaching staff.

I also enjoyed activities on campus such as basketball and made some good friends. I also got to do some travelling while studying here, I loved the class trip to Wales; that was very special, we bonded and made good friendships. I also enjoyed travelling to London, Brighton, Manchester and Southampton.

 How has your scholarship made a difference to you?

The scholarship made a big difference to me and I am very grateful to Keele for that. It gave me the peace of mind that Keele was looking after me and my only obligation was to study. Through this opportunity I have been able to gain a lot of skills and expertise in the field of environmental sustainability and green technology. I have also gained an international exposure through interacting with great minds form different parts of the world through studying at Keele University. I believe that the education and general life experience that I have gained through the past one year at Keele has moulded me to a better individual and had equipped me with the skills that will help me become a great environmental professional in future.

What do you plan to do after you leave Keele?

I want to go into consultancy in the future.  I feel I am now in a better position to be an environmental professional and advice on environmental projects and some aspects of engineering projects. I am therefore looking to join an environmental consultancy firm when I go back home. I also have plans of doing a PhD in the line of renewable energy technologies in the near future.

What advice would you give to a new student coming to Keele?

I encourage anyone looking to join a UK university to come to Keele.

Keele is an awesome place and I don’t think any other place is comparable in standards not just social, but also academic (we are number one for student satisfaction (2014-2016) for a reason). I advise anyone, especially those looking at environmental sciences that Keele is the place to be.

Finally, what words would you use to describe your Keele experience?

Awesome, fulfilling, exciting and fun.
