Employers seek to recruit individuals with high-level subject knowledge and skills who also understand the workplace. Placements provide an insight into what it is like to work in a specific area of the industry and allow you to familiarise yourself with the professional working environment and enable you to apply the skills and theory you’ve been learning. Christopher, Applied Environmental Science and Physics

"Learning about Geographical Information Systems (GIS) was particularly useful with the skills learnt being applied daily in my current job. I enjoyed learning how to perform water quality tests including the methods behind data collection and analysing the results. The field work that I conducted during my degree helped reinforce what I had learnt in lectures and gave me valuable experience that is also applicable to my current job."
