SURF’s research aspires to be community-led, and that means working closely with rural partners to research the problems that are important to them. Some of the organisations we are working with are listed below.
Cromford Mills, part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site is considered to be the birthplace of the modern factory system. This site is managed by the Arkwright Society.
We are CPRE, the countryside charity. We want a thriving, beautiful countryside for everyone.
We believe in countryside and green spaces that are accessible to all, rich in nature and playing a crucial role in responding to the climate emergency.
The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust is an Independent Museum Trust with the twin charitable aims for heritage conservation and education. IGMT runs 10 museums and cares for 110 acres of land and 35 listed buildings and scheduled ancient monuments spread across the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site.
The MERL serves as a leading repository for archives, publications, and artefacts connected to the history of food, farming, and the countryside. Founded in 1951, its holdings help record and reveal a complex story of rural change. We work to engage audiences and communities in issues connected to relevant themes.
The Institute of Quarrying originated in Caernarvon in 1917 with a common purpose to advance the science and practice of quarrying internationally in the interests of the public at large. The IQ supports individuals across the minerals sector in developing their knowledge and skills.
