Sustainability and Climate Change Photo Exhibition – a collaborative project with Keele Students’ Union and Keele University, funded by Keele Key Fund  

What does sustainability and climate change mean to you? 

This question is at the heart of a new exhibition of student photography that showcases the diverse perspectives on this critical issue here at Keele University. 

Through their photographs, students explore the many facets of sustainability from environmental conservation and social justice to economic development and cultural preservation. Their images capture the beauty and fragility of the planet, the resilience of communities in the face of adversity, and the power of individuals to create a more sustainable future.  

Sustainability is about a balance between social, environmental and economic issues which are multifaceted and deeply interconnected. It represents a condition where natural and human systems can co-exist and thrive indefinitely. 

In 2015, the United Nations launched the Sustainable Development Goals to give a blueprint for where bold action needs to be taken to build a greener, fairer and better world by 2030. The students mapped their photographs to these goals demonstrating how everyday actions can link to these international goals. 

The photographs in this exhibition offer a glimpse into the many ways that students are noticing and thinking about sustainability and climate change.  

The students’ photography show that they are aware of the challenges we face, but also believe that we can create a more sustainable future. Their images are a call to action, urging us to take responsibility for the planet and our societies. 

Sustainability is one of Keele's priorities. Not just through our research and education, but also embedding sustainability into everything that we do. 

 

What key actions can you do? 

• Join in with and support existing events and campaigns and support them to reach a wider audience 
• Think about the Sustainable Development Goals and how your projects and actions can link to SDGs you are particularly interested in personally or professionally 
• Collaborate with other students, staff and societies and contribute to the community 
• Reflect on what works and what doesn't, what you learned and share this information to support others on their sustainability and climate action journeys 
• Be innovative, have fun exploring new approaches and projects
