Making a (Green) Impact

Posted on 10 October 2013

We are excited to have signed up for the NUS Green Impact Scheme, and we are looking for both staff and students across the institution to be part of it.

The Green Impact scheme, led by the National Union of Students, is an environmental action scheme, creating a structure for individuals to create small changes where they study and work that together have a big impact! It has been running for 5 years and used by over 50 Higher Education and Further Education institutions.

Teams within buildings and directorates use a simple online workbook to work through actions to 'green' their workplace. Points are associated with each criterion and teams can receive bronze or silver accreditation for their work. The team that gets the most points receive the institution's gold accreditation. The criteria cover areas from energy to procurement. For further information about how the scheme works, visit Keele's Green Impact page.

All staff interested in finding out more about the scheme are invited to attend a lunch and launch event on the 17th October from 12:15 - 2:15pm in the Student Union Ball Room. The Vice-Chancellor Nick Foskett will be showing his support for the scheme, alongside a representative from the National Union of Students. Trevor Shields, Sustainability and Environmental Advisor at the University of Birmingham, will be speaking about the impact this scheme can have, and how to overcome challenges along the way. Please register your interest here.

We are also keen for students to get involved. If you are a student and interested to gain some work experience over the coming year in the area of behaviour change, please click here to find out more.
