Green campus

We have a stunning 617 acre site with a wealth of biodiversity and resources which makes our campus an excellent place to explore opportunities for sustainability initiatives.

We encourage students, staff and visitors to get involved with the sustainability agenda. We now have a scheme where students can grow their own food on campus through the Student Eats project and a small allotment scheme which is open to staff, students and members of the public.

We have an arboretum with a National Collection of flowering cherries and we encourage visitors to visit the campus and follow self-guided walks around the campus buildings and the extensive lakes and woodland beyond Keele Hall.

In addition, we have significantly increased on-site generation of electricity through wind turbines and solar panels, and carbon emissions from campus energy use have decreased by 48% since 2005.

We encourage students on our undergraduate BSc in Environment and Sustainability and MSc in Environmental Sustainability and Green Technology to carry out projects to support the sustainability understanding and performance of the university.
