Please join us for our final Institute for Sustainable Futures session of Keele Green Festival on Thursday 18th March at 2pm-3pm - "Bedding into Bags: An Upcycling Project" with Professor Clare Holdsworth from the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment. The session will explore the "Bedding into Bags" project and will include a Q&A.
The session will take place on the Sustainability Community Team space and is open to all staff, students and the public, so please feel free to share the event with your networks.
Abstract and Biography
Bedding into bags is an upcycling project to remake unused domestic textiles into new bags. This case study explores the ethics of upcycling and makes the case for upcycling to be interpreted as doing making forwards. This means starting with the potential of material rather than the goal of making end products. The case study also explores how upcycling combines new and old materials to maximise the utility of unwanted fabric.
The bags were made by Clare Holdsworth, Professor of Social Geography in the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment and recipient of a Leverhulme Trust Major Research Fellowship, The Social Life of Busyness in an Age of Acceleration.
