We are an internationally recognised centre for the study of the Americas, including North America, the Caribbean and Latin America. We are funded by a substantial endowment which provides financial assistance to active researchers, supports seminars, conferences, colloquia, occasional lectures and small exhibits, and encourages postgraduate study by means of scholarships and research grants.

My name is James Peacock. I'm the Director of the David Bruce Centre for the Study of the Americas.

Hello, I'm Dr. Fiorella Montero-Diaz. I'm a Senior Lecturer in Ethnomusicology here at Keele and now the Deputy Director of the David Bruce Centre.

There's been a strong connection with American Studies since 1969, when the David Bruce Centre for American Studies, as it used to be called, was established. The Centre is being relaunched to expand on some of the things it has done throughout its history, and to make more explicit the transnational aspects of studying the Americas.

The plan is now to expand that scope to include North America, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. We want to promote transnational and interdisciplinary research among staff and students, and beyond Keele, with rich and diverse partners.

We'll have people from across the university—from the Medical School, where there are people researching parasitic diseases common in the Americas, to Humanities and Social Sciences, where we have people working on, for example, Latin American music and American literature.

The David Bruce Centre will promote the dialogue we need to talk, collaborate, co-produce, and foster a greater diversity of research than before.
